UPSL ROUNDUP | Back to back wins AGainst Alexandria united!

October 2, 2025

After a postponed match on September 28th, we hosted Alexandria United for a late weeknight match up. A smaller pitch proved to make the match interesting with both sides struggling to keep possession. Defender Jordan McMillen launched a long throw in to the back post that found a leaping Chris Barnard who headed it in for our first of the evening in the 33rd minute. A couple minutes later midfielder Malachy McGovern won the ball in the midfield and played a chipped through ball to Miles Powell who smashed home the right footed volley in the 39th! Alexandria United came out of halftime with a different energy and proved to be dangerous at moments. Kareem Gharbi hit a beautiful cross in to the box to find the head of McGovern for our third in the 70th minute. Dilane Zouantcha capped off the scoring in the 90th minute after picking the ball up in the box, turning with ease, and using his left foot to curl one in the back of the net! Goalkeeper Maxim Davis earned a shutout on the evening!

What a 90 minutes. A warm October day made things interesting for both sides. Our side had a strong start scoring in the 8th minute. Kareem Gharbi hit a driven cross set piece that saw Malachy McGovern head it to the far post. We had trouble finishing our chances which saw us go in to halftime up 1-0. The second half started strong when Marco Sequeira floated a shot over the keepers head to the far post in the 53rd minute. Alexandria United made the match interesting scoring back to back goals in the 55th and 66th minute to tie things up. A Alexandria United defender mistake led to a penalty kick in the 80th minute. Forward Miles Powell notched his tenth goal of the season as he hit a composed shot to the lower left corner. Fela Osifeso also joined the scoresheet after converting from the spot in the 90th minute!

Thank you to everyone who came out to support for both of these matches! After 8 matches played we currently sit top of the Virginia North Conference table with a record of 7 wins, 1 draw, and 0 losses. We have two regular season matches left against North Stars and Petrolero. Stay tuned for details!
